EMDR Therapy Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a powerful therapeutic technique primarily for the resolution of past trauma. When a person experiences trauma the body and mind naturally process the event so that it becomes manageable for the individual. For some people, however, the trauma gets ‘blocked’ and continues to effect them in different ways throughout their life. E.g. phobias, flashbacks, physical problems, insomnia etc. EMDR is a protocol developed by Francine Shapiro, which enables the patient to accelerate the processing to full resolution. The procedure involves a series of eye movements (or other trans hemispherical stimulus) whilst thinking of the trauma. This process enables the patient to rapidly become ‘desensitised’ to the traumatic event and for new positive beliefs and feelings to be ‘installed’. Find out more: Contact a practitioner. Homeopathy To qualify as a Homeopath requires extensive training to enable the Homeopath to offer different natural remedies to a variety of symptoms and conditions. The homeopath treats the individual, not the disease. In homeopathy it is believed that a symptom is a message from the whole being signalling a particular message to the patient. For this reason, Homeopathy not only aims to treat the symptom but also takes account of the individual patients needs. In conventional medicine the symptoms are often cured but the underlying energy responsible for the symptom is missed which can lead to other symptoms appearing to get the message through. Once the patient is cured the homeopath believes the symptoms will naturally disappear. Find out more: See Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine or contact a practitioner via the Society of Homeopaths.
